MORE INFORMATION:
This training is not required to obtain, possess or administer naloxone in Oregon, but training is recommended. Multnomah County Health Department created five videos that provide basic education in naloxone use and recognizing overdose. You can access the training videos here. Our train-the-trainer session supplements these basic training videos. Training participants will also:
- Get comfortable with the suggested training protocols (as covered in videos)
- Learn additional material beyond the recommended protocol
- Learn more about the logistics of starting a naloxone program (ordering supplies, storage, data collection, etc)
HOW TO GET NALOXONE (or Narcan):
Community-based organizations in Multnomah, Washington or Clackamas County that complete this course can purchase discounted naloxone (Narcan) through the Multnomah County Health Department Pharmacy at approximately $90 per 2-dose box. If you would like to order naloxone through this program, please email kelsi.junge@multco.us; I will send you all the necessary paperwork. This will allow you to purchase a small amount of discounted naloxone for use at your social service agency.
Under Oregon House Bill 3440, individuals and entities may also purchase naloxone through a retail pharmacy without a prior prescription; pharmacists are able to prescribe. Organizations may purchase as much naloxone as needed for use at their agency through this route. The average cost per 2-dose box of nasal Narcan is $150-$175. A map of pharmacies currently distributing naloxone can be found on the Oregon Health Authority website.
Organizations interested in starting a naloxone distribution program for people who use drugs may also qualify for discounted injectable naloxone. We go over this information in the training, and we can offer assistance in establishing distribution programs.

• Due to limited resources, we do not distribute naloxone kits at this training.
• It is not required to attend this training before starting your own program. This training is solely to build training capacity at your agency.
